About Us
There are many words that people would use to describe Bonavista Church, but the word that we use the most is Family.
At its core, Bonavista Church is about relationships - and really, isn't that what life is all about?
All that we do is focused on three areas of relationship:
- Our relationship with God
- Our relationship with one another
- Our relationship with those around us.
We have identified five essential elements that help us grow and express these relationships.
We are a member church of the Evangelical Missionary Church of Canada denomination. The EMCC denomination has churches and ministries all across Canada, North American and around the world. We are a growing body of churches who desire to share Christ and embrace His mission on earth. Our denominational relationship is important to us and influences our identity as a congregation. - 1. Worship - We want our lives and actions to honour and please God. When we gather together, we enjoy times of worship through music and other arts to express our love, devotion and surrender to God.
- 2. Discipleship - We want our relationship with God to be a growing and dynamic relationship. We are committed to knowing Him through Scripture, Prayer, Study and other Spiritual Disciplines. We want to follow Him and be obedient to what we hear Him say to us.
- 3. Community - We love and care about one another. We share life together and all of the joys and struggles that are part of that. We enjoy being together and encouraging each other to follow God and His ways. We always have room for more to join into our 'Church Family.'
- 4. Mission - We love those around us. Whether that is our neighbours, co-workers, or strangers on the other side of the world, we believe that God loves ALL people and so we do too. We love to share about our faith in Jesus Christ, but we do that in a way that focuses on our relationship with people first. Through different partnerships we have built, Bonavista Church is involved with God's Work in Calgary, Quebec, Mexico, Romania, Uganda, and many other places around the world.
- 5. Service - God has given all of us gifts, passions and abilities. We don't want to use those only for our own pleasure and attention - but want to share them with others as well. Whether it is in music/ art; working with children and teens; working on a construction project; or anything else - all of us offer what we can in the hopes that our service will bring glory and attention to God.
